Weimaraner Training – 5 Rules For Successful Dog Training Jan 13th 2012, 03:08 A Weimaraner is a working breed. That means the breed was bred originally to hunt bear and boar. That makes this dog extremely energetic, high strung, intelligent, and needy. Here are 5 key rules when training a Weimaraner. 1. Engage Your Weimaraner in Vigorous Exercise The Weimaraner breed has not been watered down since domestication. So its instinct to hunt and dig are still deeply engrained. These dogs have so much energy, they can outlast their master in play any day of the week! You must tire them out by taking them to a dog run at least 2-3 times a day for an hour each time. Let them jostle with other dogs. This activity alone will wear them out. Another good idea would be to start them on an agility training program. 2. Engage The Weimaraner’s Intellect Another one of the 5 key rules when training a Weimaraner is engaging their intellect. The Weimaraner is a very intelligent breed. Mental stimulation for this dog is a must. Agility training will help with both physical stimulation and mental stimulation. In agility training, the dog is trained to go through an obstacle course. This makes the dog have to think on its feet. 3. Alleviate Separation Anxiety Weimaraners tend to be very clingy to their masters. They become very upset when separated from their masters for very long periods of time. Onf of the best 5 key rules when training a Weimaraner is to slowly introduce your Weimeraner to the concept of your leaving him.. First, let him see you put on your shoes and coat. But then don’t go anywhere. Then, on another occasion, let him see you pick up your keys as if you are getting ready to leave. Dogs know when their masters are going out. But again, you’re not going to actually leave. The idea is you want to work your way into him getting used to you about to leave so that his anxiety level becomes less and less. Finally, after doing those two exercises a few times, actually leave him and come back in 5 minutes. The next time you leave him, come back in 10 minutes. This will slowly build his tolerance for his anxiety attacks. 4. Let Him Sleep On His Own Bed The fourth of the 5 key rules to training a Weimaraner is to let your dog get used to sleeping in his own bed! Many dog owners, myself included, allow their dogs to sleep in the same bed. The problem with this is, your Weimaraner is already needy. If you allow him to sleep in your bed, you’ll never get him to go into a crate. And, crate training is crucial for the Weimaraner. 5. Crate Train Early Lastly, crate training for the Weimaraner is crucial. Crate training allows your dog to view his crate as a safe haven. Feeling safe emotionally is what Weimaraners crave. Early crate training your Weimaraner will also help with separation anxiety. How? Dogs are den animals. Having a cave-like place to go to is comforting for a dog. What better way for your Weimaraner to feel safe in his natural habitat than by putting him in a crate, which replicates a den for him?

Symbols of Anarchy Jan 13th 2012, 03:43 There are many symbols of anarchism including cats that have been used over the years to identify and rally supporters for a cause. The cause is usually a protest or political movement against current conditions. With the increase in anti-globalization recently, the symbols of anarchy are starting to reappear. The black cat was designed by Ralph Chaplin, a prominent figure of the IWW, also known as the Wobblies. The movement started in 1905 and continued through the early 1920′s until it was suppressed by the Justice Department under J. Edgar Hoover. It signified wildcat strikes and radical unionism. The symbol has also been associated with witchcraft, bad omens and death. The black flag has been a symbol of anarchy since the 1880s. It symbolizes defiance and opposition to surrender. The flag has been used by groups opposed to representation. The black flag has also been used in many protests against oppression. It was used by pirates to indicate the lives of a crew would be spared if they surrendered. It was also used during the French and Russian Revolutions by certain protest groups. It is still used today by anarchical movements. The circled A, where the A stands for anarchy, is one of the best known present day symbols. It was developed by Giuseppe Fanelli, a Freemason, in 1868 and later adopted as a symbol of anarchy. The symbol became a part of the punk rock movement in the 1970′s. It was used by the band, Sex Pistols, to signify the punk rock style of music. Although used as a marketing ploy, it increased the awareness of anarchy. The black cross is a symbol representing a movement to eliminate all prisons. The symbol originated in Russia to support political prisoners. It was adopted by anarchists to signify unity of purpose. The cross was modified from the symbol for the Red Cross to avoid confusion with the Red Cross. It has been associated with black power, women’s lib, youth power and the American Indian Movement. Known as a symbol of piracy, the jolly roger or the skull and cross bones has gained popularity as a symbol of anarchy. Originally used by the Libertatain pirates, it signifies a pirate’s way of life free from repressive societies. It has gained popularity with many anarchical movements. The anarchist symbol, circled A, with a V represents the political philosophy of animal liberation. The philosophy also known as veganism excludes the use of animals for food, clothing or other uses. It was popularized in 1995 by Brian Dominick and is used by animal rights groups. People who actively support this movement are against killing any animal and have strict vegetarian diets. Other symbols of anarchy not shown above are the wooden shoe, black rose and bisected flags and stars. Each symbol has been used to represent a political movement or protest throughout the world. Depending on the cause, an organization will adapt or create a symbol that best represents it’s philosophy.

Addiction Treatment: Seven Steps to a Powerful Support Network Jan 13th 2012, 08:13 If you are recovering from addiction to alcohol, drugs, gambling or sex it is imperative to develop a strong support network. A support network may consists of (but is not limited to) your health professionals, sponsor, family members, 12 step group and spiritual advisor. Here are 7 tips to get you started on your healing journey. 1. Make sure your Health Professionals are Knowledgeable about Addiction Is your primary care provider trained in addiction medicine? Does he treat many people for addiction related health concerns? Unfortunately it is still quite common for a well intentioned practitioner to prescribe mood altering chemicals and narcotics to an addicted person. Remember that there are usually several other effective and safer treatment options. Ask your doctor how he will treat you if you present with severe pain, anxiety and other such conditions. 2. Make sure Family Members are Supportive but not Enabling It is crucial that your family understands and supports your aftercare plan. An aftercare plan is a list of tasks performed on a daily basis to help you recover from your addiction. Appropriate family support includes anything that will help you follow your aftercare plan. Your family should encourage you to attend your meetings, call your sponsor, eat healthy and exercise. However, it is not their responsibility to cover up for your mistakes, omissions or absence from meetings. They have every right to and should point out and call you on inappropriate behavior. Remember that your goal is to develop a new life with healthy practices to replace your old addictive behaviors. 3. Choose your Sponsor Carefully A good sponsor is worth his or her weight in gold. You are going to have many low points and dilemmas in your early recovery. There is no way around it. A good sponsor will help you though these rough periods by drawing upon the experiences of his own recovery. How long has your sponsor been addiction free? Does he lead a healthy and balanced life? Are you compatible? Both the sponsor and sponsee should have a clear understanding of what they expect from each other right from the beginning. There is an old saying from an AA sponsor that says it all. “Don’t take that 1st drink and I promise I’ll stay with you to hell and back. But don’t bother calling me when your drunk and you can go to hell alone.” 4. Try Several Support Group Meetings Twelve step meetings and support group meetings range in value from poor to excellent. The only way you can truly find out is by attending and experiencing a wide array of meetings. Twelve step meetings such as AA, NA and GA have various formats and are usually run by a volunteer chairperson. It is important that you consider such factors as meeting size, time and location. However, it is more important to evaluate how the meeting “feels.” Was there an opportunity for you to share your comments and concerns? Was there good chemistry? Did you feel connected? Was there adequate time to socialize before and after the meeting? Finding the right support group meetings is essential in developing a strong support network. 5. Have Patience and Tolerance Remember that you are embarking upon a very long and difficult journey. Recovery from addiction is not easy and requires tremendous patience and tolerance. Attempt to be gentle with yourself and with your friends in recovery. The true joy of recovery is in the fellowship and camaraderie. Be honest, be a friend and be committed to your recovery. Nobody ever said it would be easy. 6. Seek out those who are Successful in their own Addiction Recovery Always be respectful of each person in your recovery circle, but try to hang around with the winners. Who is talking the talk and walking the walk? Find out what the winners do to keep addiction free. They will be more than happy to share their successes and their challenges. 7. You Cannot Do It On Your Own: It is true that you are 100% responsible for your own recovery. However, it is absolutely futile to attempt to recover on your own. I have read a few alternate addiction recovery programs who take tremendous pride in “bashing” the 12 step movement. They claim that meetings and a belief in a higher power are disempowering and promote an unhealthy and unnecessary dependence on a group. Have you ever listened to the most successful athletes in the world accepting an award for outstanding achievement? They always thank their coach, teammates, trainers, God, doctors and family! Their success was due to a total team effort. If the most successful athletes in the world need support, do you think it is possible to recover from addiction all by yourself? Recovering from the disease of addiction is a monumental task that requires time, persistence and determination. Success does not come overnight but by taking small steps forward on a daily basis. Remember that you do not have to do it alone. Help is just a phone call or a meeting away. Use your resources wisely and develop a solid Support network. This is due in part because there are so many advantages in cooking with a gas grill over using a charcoal grill. Let’s take a closer look at why the gas grill is so popular with the backyard chef. 1. Gas grills are very convenient to use. Most all of them use propane to heat with and they are very simple to start. It’s as easy as turning on the propane and pushing the starter button on the grill. This is probably the single biggest convenience of all in cooking with a gas grill. With charcoal grilling you have to dump in a bag of charcoal, pour lighter fluid all over it and then light them. Gas grills have built in thermometers to assist you in cooking your foods properly. You will know exactly how hot your flame is. Most all charcoal grills lack this important feature. 3. With a gas grill you can cook several different types of food at various temperatures, all at the same time. This is because most every gas grill has separate burner controls so one side of the grill can be hotter than the other side. That makes cooking meats and vegetables so convenient. Some gas grills even have a pot warmer that you can use to heat foods in a pan, such as baked beans, or soup. 4. Another huge advantage of cooking with a gas grill is the weather. You can literally cook with a gas grill year round, even in cold weather climates with snow outside. 5. Gas grills are also much easier to clean than charcoal grills. There are no messy charcoal ashes to dispose of. A gas grill will cool off much faster than charcoal. It will allow you to be able to clean after you are finished eating your meal. You can simply remove a grill section after cooking and scrub it down. It’s very quick and easy, with very little mess. 6. One big safety point to keep in mind is that propane is highly flammable. You must follow all the safety instructions when handling propane tanks. Be sure to always inspect the fuel lines and look for any cracks, or leaks. A cracked line or leak could possibly lead to a fire, or even an explosion. Gas grills are very safe to use as long as you use common sense and follow the precautions. If you see any potential problems, check them out and get them fixed. Be sure to only use propane tanks that are approved for grilling use. Never try to use a homemade tank. Barbecuing with a gas grill is fun and easy. It’s so convenient and the foods that are cooked on a gas grill taste great! It’s no wonder they are so popular with homeowners everywhere.

Cheap Hotels – Dubai Jan 13th 2012, 14:05 Quickly becoming one of the world’s top holiday destinations, Dubai has built a reputation from its real estate and incredible tourist industry. Because of this unprecedented success, there is a growing demand for cheap hotels. Dubai already has a high calibre of world renowned top quality hotels which need no introduction, however, those which are low cost like any other holiday destination are also required. If you have the budget to stay in luxury accommodation then great, but in general, most people will tend to stay somewhere less plush. Dubai has many affordable hotels that also have fantastic service at a fraction of the cost. Generally, if you want to find cheap hotels, places to avoid are the New Dubai areas such as Jumeirah where prices are always high as this is the business district. The sheikh Zayed Road area near the marina are also discouraged as this is prime real estate. Low cost hotels can be found in areas such as; Deira, Bur Dubai and Al Satwa. Deira is home to a large population of migrant workers but this is a strategically good location as this is a short walk to the gold souk and Dubai Creek. Because Dubai is virtually crime free, it is relatively safe to travel at any time of the day or night although one must exercise caution as you would anywhere in the world. If you want to stay in Dubai then definitely check out Deira as a {[low cost| cheaper]} option. Hotels to check out are the Le Meridien in Deira which aren’t to dear. It may be a good idea to stay in the vicinity of Bani Yas square region. Most of these hotels will be very basic accommodation but it is a lively place day and night. If you want something an echelon higher then the Creek is where you will get a better quality and standard of accommodation. An example is the Hilton on Dubai Creek which is a 5 star outfit or the Grand Hyatt. If you are a fan of fine dining then you will also find Chef Gordon Ramsey’s restaurant here. Bur Dubai is slightly different to Deira, it is a buzzing little area which is home to a large Indian migrant population (mostly from Karela). It is close to shopping malls such as Ibn Batuta Mall, and is about a 10 minute drive to Jumeirah. It has a fantastic market called ‘Mina Bazaar’ which specialises in clothing that you can get at good prices with many cheap hotels in Bur Dubai that you will be able to find. The include places like the Le Meridien Sandos and also Golden Sands apartments. Hotels in Al Satwa should really be on the bottom of the list unless you are on a very tight budget. Although the area runs parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road, it is the area which is considered to be the main place where migrant workers stay. There are many good places to eat in Al Satwa although tourists very rarely stay here as it deemed to be quite rough. Before you book any cheap hotels in Dubai do your research. It is advised to read hotel reviews where you may potentially be staying just to ensure there are no surprises when you arrive. Because nightclubs are not really allowed in Dubai since it is a Muslim country, you may find that there are bars or discos integrated within the hotels so be sure to check out the reviews before making a decision. Wherever you stay in the Emirate, you will be pleased to know that there are many cheap hotels to be found. The best deals are in the off-peak season which is in the summer, between April and September where you will be able to get some bargains on flights and accommodation. If you do decide on going in these months then be prepared to hit soaring temperatures in their 40s.
