Travel Go Stuff Florence
Giuseppe Armani and the Florence Studio
Jan 17th 2012, 19:33

Aren’t you interested in the world of figurines? Don’t you know that there are tens of thousands who are interested in collecting famous figurines like Armani figurines? Here you are going to learn all about the renowned figurines. That information will surely help you when you attempt to purchase a figurine, either as a collection or as a gift to someone. Armani figurines are very popular in the world of collectibles, especially figurines. The figurines are unique and striking and they are easily identifiable. They consist of beautifully crafted life forms and elements of nature, as well as a few provocative pieces. The magic behind the collection takes place in the Florence Studio. Established in 1973, its team of artists and sculptors work with great precision and talent. The first Armani collection, “Gulliver’s World”, was released in 1980. The popular Florence sculpture line currently features more than twenty collections, including “Classic & Mythology”, “The Seasons”, and Decorative Arts. A unique component of the collection is the lamps; the figurine acts as the lamp base, providing a practical, yet stunning work of art. There is also “the Year”, a great starting point for new collectors. Gift-givers will find the “Professions” collection – consisting of a doctor, nurse and graduate – particularly interesting. The collection also contains animals and birds, perfect for nature lovers. Other collections are dedicated to events, relationships, and even clowns. Although anyone with a keen sense of artistic interpretation would appreciate the detail and emotion of the sexier figurines, several figurines may be considered controversial. The “Home Accents” sculptures feature provocative poses, as well as women dressed as showgirls. This has invited a lot of hostile criticism but several people also show interest in them as exotic collection. Those interested in Armani collection can contact The Society, the official collectors’ club. Members can enroll in The Society free of charge by purchasing an item from the fabulous collection. Membership is good for two years and provides advantages such as access to exclusive figurines and the opportunity to tour the manufacturing Florence Studios. When trying to confirm an authentic figurine, compare the name on the box and the sculpture. Authentic works of art often provide a description on the box, while the figurine itself displays its true name. The sculptures are made of porcelain, therefore they are very fragile. The figurines should never be kept in direct sunlight and are best stored in their original boxes, and can be cleaned using a soft, dry brush. If a figurine develops any scratches or chips, it should be taken to a professional restorer. Dealers can also provide information about current collections, retired figurines, and accessories such as pedestals.

Medicine Wheel Garden – Tips For Creating Sacred Space in Your Own Backyard
Jan 17th 2012, 21:14

The Circle – lacking a beginning or end, represents infinity, perfection and the eternal. Often a symbol in our lives and our various cultures, the circle is articulated in many symbolic ways: The universal symbol of the wedding band as a sacred link of protection and unity. Hindus represent the great Wheel of Existence within a circle. The Yin Yang symbol in eastern philosophies is based on the interconnectedness of the balance of energies represented within a circle. Tibetan Buddhism represents many of its paths to enlightenment within the symbolic artistry of mandalas represented as artwork and in the form of sand paintings. Ancient Labyrinths were based on the circle with the center representing the Universe, or the “Creator-God” that the culture revered, with the paths leading towards the center representing a form of pilgrimage to God (Christian Labyrinths). Native American culture was mindful of the sacred hoop and circle as explaining their relationship with the cosmos and the Creator. For Native Americans and tribes of Lower Canada, the circle of the Universe provided the sacred model for all human activities. All of life was given ritual meaning by incorporating the circle into everyday tasks and behavior. Gatherings for ceremonies, eating, dancing and their living quarters in the form of a tipi (Plains Indians) were circular. Native Americans believed the circle to be a symbol for not just a representation of the cosmos, but to represent the cycles of growth, death, and rebirth in the suns and moon’s rising and setting, the planting and harvesting of the crops, and the birth and death of each individual. Thus, the medicine wheel became a tool to focus the honoring and celebration of the cycles of nature through ritual, song, dance, and the making of offerings. Native American culture was imbued with ceremony in all aspects of life. The ordinary acts of daily living were in some ways, performed in a ritualized fashion, to honor the cycles of nature. Everyday living became a sacred act as each inhabitant of Mother Earth cherished that which it was provided by plentiful food, crops, water and co-existence with Nature. Their connection to the Earth was that of a human being having a spiritual experience with the Earth itself and therefore, everywhere they walked, ate and slept, became sacred space for which they developed ceremonies and ritual to honor and respect. The sacred circle was used as a stylized template to illustrate the cosmos and how various components were interrelated including the four cardinal directions and the corresponding elements. Animal totems serve as guardians for each of the four directions. Since the ancient medicine wheels left no clear purpose of their use, archaeologists and historians have speculated widely as to the ritualistic and ceremonial use of medicine wheels, especially the designated locations of the animal totems. This illuminating guide to the Native American ritual of the Medicine Wheel makes an ancient spiritual practice available to everyone. Roy Wilson, Cowlitz Chief and Spiritual Leader in Washington, combines Sun Bear’s Zodiac system (outer circle) and his own vision: The Four Pathways are used to experience the God within. It is important to note that all Pathways go through the Creator, which includes the Creator in the center, surrounded by seven Spirit Messengers: Cougar, Hawk, Coyote, Wolf, Bear, Raven, and Owl; the four Gatekeepers: Buffalo in the East, Bear in the South; Eagle in the West; and Cougar in the North; the twelve Spirit Helpers: Turkey, Turtle, and Owl on the East Pathway; Beaver, Ant, and Squirrel on the South Pathway; Butterfly, Bat, and Grouse on the West Pathway; and, Hawk, Goose, and Wolf on the North Pathway.” In the Medicine Wheel of the Hopi prophecy of the four peoples of the Earth, the cardinal direction North represents the body, plants and animals, the color white and ‘white skinned peoples, and Childhood. The East was held to represent the mind, air, the color yellow and ‘yellow skinned peoples’, and Adolescence. The South holds the heart, fire, the color red and ‘red skinned’ people, and Adulthood. Finally West holds the spirit, water, the color blue or black, and ‘black-skinned peoples’, and Elder hood. West also represents the final life stage in the wheel, being an elder and passing on knowledge to the next generation so that the wheel may start again just like the circle it takes after. The circle with its four directions, corresponding to four elements of nature and the Four Original Tribes were all given by the Creator to all peoples originating from the four different directions. Each culture developed their own rituals and methods for representing the circle as an expression of how they viewed their relationship with the Universe. They used Medicine Wheels, Mandalas, Sacred Circle Teachings, Labyrinths, stone megaliths, etc. to learn about and express their relationship and connect them with the cosmos or their Creator. Gardening relates to this concept of the sacred circle beyond the physical shape. The circle represents a cycle of life. Just as the directions correspond with birth, adolescence, adulthood and death, plants and flowers experience the same cycle. From the seeds come germination, then growth, blooming/flowering, seed development and eventually plant mortality. Of course, some plants live very long lives, but the cycle of nature is seen more apparent in annual flowers which last only a season. The Medicine Wheel can be adapted for garden use without all the traditional and sacred ritual and ceremony. To call your garden a “Medicine Wheel Garden” implies you are adhering to sacred traditions. Doing so can only make the process of design and utilization much more complicated. A garden that is designed with a strong circular shape so that the cardinal directions can be honored, so that animal totems in the form of stones or boulders resembling animals can be used and that has four basic spokes intersecting through the center to reinforce movement of the spirit of that which you are embodying can serve to create a unique, personal sacred garden space. Customizing it to fit your needs and belief systems will make it sacred. Sharing the vision of the sacred form of the circle and incorporating the four quadrants will form the basic structure upon which you can add other elements that make it powerful. So I am suggesting that we try not to emulate or recreate traditional medicine wheels and call them so, but rather, take the Universal Sacred Form of the circle and embellish it with meaning using the earth, the elements of nature and other symbols to design a sacred spot. This can be done by accessorizing your sacred circle by using such items as crystals, feathers, flowers, spheres, garden art, etc. Further, you can design a sacred circle so that it fits the space of your garden, thus you don’t have to walk through it or across it, violating its sacredness. You create the rules!

Alpha Cooking Food Wine
Wild Game Cooking Tips
Jan 18th 2012, 01:03

Fall and early winter are great times to change the menu and include some novel meats. In general, game includes deer, rabbit, wild boar, duck, antelope and to the more exotic ant-eater, flying fox, squirrels or even bats (eg. bat soup is a delicacy in Cambodia) which can be popular in some countries.

When I was little, my dad used to work in the jungle as logging contractor in East Malaysia. Each time when he went to work in the jungle for a period of few days to a week, he would usually come back with wild games like deer, wild boar or ant eater.

Mum used to prepare them and the wild games required slightly different preparation and cooking methods as they tend to have a unique and stronger smell or odour.

Some wild game cooking tips that you might use : It is good that you marinate game meat, it will not only develops more flavor, but tenderizes the meat. You can easily marinate game from 24 hours up to four days in the refrigerator.

You should not overcook game meats. It is important to keep a good eye on the meat as it cooks because game is very lean and can become dry if cooked too long. For most people, it is best to serve the meat when it is a pink inside and still juicy.

Common ingredients added to game meats are black pepper, ginger and wine which are very helpful to neutralise the natural smell of these wild animals. The type of wine that you use is dependent on what you are cooking and what you like. For many people, white wine is for white meat and red wine is best with dark meat. This is an old rule of thumb and many people today are happy to disobey it, preferring, instead to enjoy the wine they like with whatever cut of meat they like. It is a good change.

Another way to prepare game is to cook in herbal soup. Some games are suitable for such preparation method as their have medicinal properties and can help improve certain chronic ailments if combined with chinese herbs. Check with your Local Chinese Medical Hall on the herbs required or recipe if you are near one.

Visit a restaurant that serve game meats to try out some the dishes. Find out which way of cooking suit your taste buds. You can talk to the chef and find out what his or her favorite wild game cooking tips and recipes are.

Another good source to learn wild game cooking tips is by doing an online search. It is best to narrow your search down to the particular type of game that you are interested in. You will find that there are many sites now available that discuss the various ways of preparing game meats. Many of these sites offer expert advice from long time hunters and chefs, all of whom are happy to share their expertise with you.

Sports – The Perfect Business
Jan 18th 2012, 01:02

Name an industry that gets free advertising every day in every newspaper around the country? Still thinking? Here is another hint – they have web sites, radio shows, TV shows and entire cable channels dedicated to talking about them and their product? Give Up? The answer is sports.

What an incredible industry. Every morning Jerry Jones’ team has articles written about it. Free color pictures on the front page promoting his brand. Radio shows talking solely about his product for hours on end.

More than 30 million people play fantasy sports. The average player in fantasy sports spends about $110 a year on their fantasy teams, and that is mainly to have “bragging rights”. Some of us can remember back in the 1990′s when people played “rotisserie leagues”. Today ESPN, Yahoo, Sports Illustrated, CBS Sportsline and others have very sophisticated online systems to manage leagues and get you information about your team, players and league standings.

They make a fortune on these sites from advertising because they know they have a market of 18 – 50 year old males earning over $50,000 a year and who spend more than two hours a week playing these games, reading the ads, and messaging their friends about the sports articles. Why are fantasy sports games so popular -because we love sports and the fantasy games feed the love.

In 2004, the CBS and Fox networks spent a combined $8 billion to broadcast NFL games for six years. In 1999 CBS spent $6 billion for the rights to broadcast the NCAA basketball tournament for 11 years. In 2006 Fox and TBS signed a combined $3 billion deal with MLB to broadcast a few games a week plus the post season. In 2001, the NBA signed a six year $3.4 Billion deal with Time Warner. Why are billions of dollars being spent to broadcast sporting events? Because we love sports they are making money on filling that love.

You get the idea. Sports are part of our lives. We have an insatiable appetite for sports. We emotionally connect to players and teams. They are our role models. Entire cities shut down when a championship game is being played or for the victory parade. Corporations invest millions and billions of dollars in sports related media because they can get a return on that investment.

Sports Marketing – Tiger Woods, Lebron James, Michael Jordan and countless others are not only great talents, but they are the stars of carefully crafted marketing plans. These marketing plans are geared towards raising their profile, creating interest in the fan base and expanding that fan base. This does not happen just because Tiger is a good guy. This happens because there are millions of dollars to be made. Thousands of hours are invested into these marketing plans – creating the images, the right words, the right message and the right media outlet.

There is a greater point here – the business of sports has successfully tapped into our emotions and our lives in a way no other business has.

Marketing 101 – When we have read the countless books on selling and marketing, we learned the best way to sell to a person is to tap into that person’s emotions. The ability to create and emotional attachment from the buyer to your product is priceless. Everyone remember the tire ad where the baby was sitting inside the tire giggling and looking cute. You’re not buying white-walled radials – you are buying protection for your children. No price is too steep for that.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could create this type of emotion that for a furniture store? Imagine radio shows talking about trundle beds, recliner sofas and nesting tables. Well it’s hard to get excited about china cabinets the same way we do about football – and we never will. The only things that tap into our minds like sports is politics and religion. Those will too quickly become controversial for the entrepreneur.

Back to selling and our emotions. The greater the emotional attachment people have to a product, the better for us. But not all of us are not going to be as successful at tapping into Joe Public’s emotion-meter with our business idea like the NFL or tire manufacturers. They have a big head start and deeper pockets than the rest of us.

What is an entrepreneur to do? How can you get people loving your product as much as the Pittsburgh Steelers?

Sorry to put it this way, but you probably won’t. But on the bright side, if you can’t beat them join them.

Sell Sports – Sports related businesses have a big plus going for them. You are already tapping into an emotional vibe that is deep-rooted and long-living. No need to try and build that positive feeling. ESPN has taken care of that for us. All you need to do is find some avenues in sports-related business to take advantage of this fervor.

Most of us do not have 700 million sitting around to buy the next NFL franchise coming up for sale. We need to reach for some lower hanging fruit. Let’s consider a couple of business models that allow you to take advantage of the sports machine that have less barriers to entry.

Sports Tickets – The secondary sports ticket market is a $10 billion a year business. Many people reading this are going to say “ticket scalping”. To them we say you are buying a limited supply of a product and reselling it on the open market to the highest bidder. Exactly how different is this from buying and selling houses? If we had the same moral indignation for ticket resellers and we do house flippers, Carlton Sheets would be flipping burgers.

Not every ticket has a worthy resale value. We need to separate the wheat from the chaffe. We also need to know where to sell our wheat, metaphorically speaking. There are several places that offer a quality education on how to venture into this market. They will educate any novice or intermediate on the secondary ticket market and keep them from making costly mistakes as well as make profitable deals. Look for something that not only gives you a “how-to” manual, but also provides you with information on a moving-forward basis. Ticket sale dates and presale codes are valuable items. The cost of the course is usually recovered in a few transactions.

Sports Memorabilia – While we found no guides on the best ways of breaking into this business, there are some well known technique amongst sports collectors that can help you. Send balls, jerseys, photos to sports stars asking them to sign it. If you include a self addressed return package, the odds of a player signing it and sending it back go way up.

A few samples on eBay for sports memorabilia include:

Mariano Rivera Signed Baseball $230
Mariano Rivera Signed Picture $70
Chris Carpenter Signed Picture $139
Ben Roethlisberger Signed Football $325
David Carr Signed Football $225

Not too bad of a return for an investment of a ball and some postage. Start listing on eBay and you are good to go.

For market research all you need to do is go out to eBay and look at some postings.

The perfect business will tap into people’s emotions to remove price from the equation as much as possible. Sports has accomplished this goal. Anything dealing with sports will invoke passion in people. All too often people’s highs and lows coincide with their favorite team. We leave the social commentary on this to other publications. For us entrepreneurs, understanding this emotional tie-in enables us to find opportunities to capitalize on these markets.
