Hawaii Wedding Reception
Jan 18th 2012, 03:26

If you’re planning a Hawaii wedding reception for 5 to 150 guests, one of your best choices has got to be the Hau Tree Lani Restaurant where Robert Louis Stevenson is said to have often relaxed under the beautiful, old banyan tree that now covers the dining room patio like a canopy.

The Hau Tree Lanai is a stunning place to dine at sunset. My wife and I had our reception there, and I can vouch for it’s food, excellent service, and romantic atmosphere. I really enjoyed eating outdoors with a spectacular sunset for a back drop.

The best time to plan your Hawaii wedding reception is at 5:30 p.m. when the kitchen opens and the sun is just starting to light up the sky with orange and pink and purple hues. I recommend having your wedding ceremony around 3:00 p.m. because it’s cooler at that time of the day in Hawaii.

We got married in the summer time, so there was really no danger of getting rained out. For people with parties larger than 15, or who want to get married during the rainy season (November through March), the Hau Tree Lanai also has a special banquet room over looking the beach which will seat up to 150 people–and I’m told you can rent it for only 150 bucks!

A lot people think that planning a reception is difficult and that the cost is astronomical. But it doesn’t have to be that way. The Hau Tree Lanai is a great choice, but there are other economical and beautiful restaurants where you can have your Hawaii wedding reception.

I found the Hau Tree Lanai a few days before the day of our wedding, and the manager was able to accommodate us as there were only 15 people in our party. We were lucky because some couples reserve the Hau Tree Lanai for their wedding reception as much as two months in advance. Of course, the smaller your wedding party, the easier it is for the Hau Tree Lanai or any restaurant to accommodate you.

If you have a very small party you can just order right off the menu. For my Hawaii wedding reception the manager and I worked out a short menu for our guests that the kitchen could handle, but would still give our guests plenty of choices.

For $50 to $75 per person, The Hau Tree Lanai will prepare you and your guests a complete dinner with a set menu including:

- Bread and Butter

- Appetizer or Salad

- Entree (4 or 5 different choices)

- Dessert

- Coffee or Tea

That’s basically what we did. And we served our guests champagne at $30 a bottle. There’s about 5 glasses per bottle of champagne, so I think we went through 4 or 5 bottles. There was enough champagne to go around, as I remember.

We selected the following entrees for our guests to choose from:

- Avocado Crab Stuffed Mahi Mahi

- Chicken Hawaiian Monarch

- Jumbo Scampi Sans Souci

- Mango Marinated Pork Chops

- New York Steak With Butter Sauce

A 17% gratuity is added to your bill. With the champagne, the tax, and the gratuity, I remember my bill came to an even grand ($1,000). That was for 15 people. As you can see, if you’re planning your wedding reception in Hawaii, it doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg.

The Hau Tree Lanai is located at the edge of a beautiful white sand beach named Sans Souci Beach. The restaurant is part of The New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel, a 20 minute walk from Waikiki Beach. It’s a convenient location for people getting married in a park or on a beach near by.

Our limousine ferried my wife and I and several of our honored guests to the Hau Tree Lanai Restaurant. When we walked into the outdoor beach-front dining room, our long banquet table was prepared with pink table clothes and flowers in vases on the table.

The sun was setting and the waiters began pouring champagne. A great time was enjoyed by all. The Hau Tree Lanai is truly a romantic and economical place to have your wedding reception if you’re planning your wedding in Hawaii.

When You Lose Someone You Love: A Personal Journey Through the Heart of Grief
Jan 18th 2012, 07:26

I heard a shotgun blast. I must have been hit because I was down and felt it in my stomach. I was lying on the ground of a parking lot in the dark scared, hurt and alone, not knowing if I would live or die. It seemed so real, even though it was a dream. This dream, after my father died, helped me understand the shock and physical hurt I was going through. I had never experienced the loss of someone I loved and it hit me in the gut. It was as if a part of me had died. And it had. Especially the part of me who reserved things like “dying” for other families, not mine. I was alone in the uncharted territory of grief. I wasn’t interested in watching television or reading a novel. Interestingly, I enjoyed playing the piano, as unpracticed as I was. Usually I’d be too busy to sit down and play; but now time didn’t seem to matter. I remember calling a friend whose husband said she was kayaking and would be spending the night camping on an island. I wondered if I would ever get out there again, back into the world. It was as if I was suspended in an altered state of being. I couldn’t write about my father’s death for a long time. To write about something gives me distance; it keeps me in my head. As long as I didn’t write about my father dying, there was no distance. It was still happening in me. Like in my dream, I needed to stay in my body; to feel the loss in my flesh and blood – my bones. I soon began to receive and experience the incredible healing power of love. It came mysteriously; it was an honest outpouring from the people who surrounded me, wrote letters and called. One expression of sympathy I will always remember came from my friend Diana who lost her mother to breast cancer when she was a teenager. Soon after we returned home from Dad’s funeral there was a knock at the door. There, Diana stood holding the most beautiful bouquet of flowers: delphiniums, sunflowers and zinnias. She put her hand over her heart and said two words, “My mother.” We didn’t need to talk. I knew she was telling me about the love that lives on. Another friend called. Ann said “I want to take you to lunch. I will never forget when my father died.” It didn’t matter that Ann was in her 80′s or that she had lost two husbands after long 30-year marriages. It didn’t matter how many years had passed since her dad had died. She knew how I was feeling and wanted to share this time with me. During this time, my tears would come as easily as the memories of Dad. I believe tears are like holy water. They flow from the well of our hearts, where we hold our feelings. I stayed with my sadness. I shared it with others and received great comfort because they too have had sadness. My mother said she gardened with her grief. Her yard was never more beautiful than the year my father died. This time of grieving, as it gradually left my body, gave me a new way of living; it became my traveling companion as I lived more compassionately. I learned that our sadness ennobles us as humans. It means we have loved deeply. It is this love that will never die. I wrote about this in a poem the summer after my Dad died. MY FATHER I think I am letting him go. It is not that my love is diminished or that I miss him less. It is only that the sun is up and there is no milk in the refrigerator and the bunny got out of the cage and is eating my red geraniums. I think I am letting him go. But sometimes at night before I go to sleep I feel the tears fill up my eyes and run down my cheeks. I do not think I will ever let him go. But he is gone. All Aspects and Areas of 3D Animation Applications
Jan 18th 2012, 06:57

3D Animation certainly became the new fad this year with box office hits such as The Lion King 3D, Toy Story 3, as well as Puss in Boots, just to name a few. 3D Animation technology is growing and expanding everyday and has surpassed the movies. There are more and more outlets for animators to choose from such as 3D Animation Applications. Let’s explore some other avenues that 3D animators can take on. Or, if you are not an animator but enjoy 3D animation, take a look at some other areas where it is applied. Video Games: The video game industry is similar to the movie industry where stories and scenarios can be created. The only difference is the player creates the outcome. 2D video games have recently become a thing of the past. Now there are graphic animations that almost look real such as; World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, and Madden. Not only is 3D animation applied in these video games but also they are very detail oriented and truly give a whole new demeanor of playing. If you are an animator looking to create a video game, there is free software you can download for more casual video game development. These include 3D Adventure Studio, and RPG Maker XP. If you are thinking about becoming a hardcore game designer you may want to try these software programs; The 3D Game maker and Game Studio. Maps and Tourism Who needs a flat map when you can actually see where you are going with 3D maps? People are now able to get a better understanding of their destination by physically viewing the geographical location. It truly is an amazing advancement in technology. I am putting my money on 3D animated GPS navigation devices. I think those are probably in the works right about now. 3D animation is taking over. Architecture Not only is 3D animation fun for gamers and tourism but also in the architecture industry. Now architects can map their structure to a T by seeing the final product before a brick is laid or wall is assembled. 3D graphics now bring the idea and imaginary visual to life. Blueprints become visually realistic in programs like Autodesk, Photo Modeler, and Maya. Not only is 3D animation helpful for the designer but it helps sell ideas to potential investors as well. If investors can see the final product on a screen before it is built, it allows them to make a clear decision on the overall project. Education 3D Animation has been greatly applied to education. It serves as an excellent learning tool for students and especially those who are visual learners. With 3D programs, specifically those in the medical field, they can get a better understanding of what the real life experiences will be like. Pursue your 3D animation dreams because there is no better time than now to get involved in the industry. If you are a fan of 3D, make sure you explore the other applications of 3D animation and not just going to the movies to wear the funky glasses!

Christian Ministries Help Poor Children
Jan 18th 2012, 07:52

Several Christian ministries all throughout the world help poor children. Whether they are in third world countries or right here in the United States, there are millions of poor children that go without food, water, clothes, and many other basic necessities that most of us take for granted. Many people see fit to donate toys, clothes, and money to charities during the holiday season. Although this is a great start, toys are not the only thing that they need the rest of the year as well. Many people fail to realize that their small donation once a year does not help the them during the rest of the year. Here are some things that can be done to help Christian ministries help poor children all year long. Give Time- Whether traveling to a third world country like Ethiopia or Istanbul with a Christian ministry to help the poor, donating much needed time is one of the most precious gifts that anyone can give. There are never enough people that can help build homes, schools, cook, bring fresh water or even hold a hand when someone is sick. Although many may not think that giving their time will help the poor, they would be wrong. Cooking a meal for poor children or even reading a story to a child is very important. Adopt a Child- This is not adoption in the literal sense. Many Christian ministries have programs that people can donate money to each month to help a specific child. They are given regular updates of how the child is doing, what their contribution has done for the child during that month. Many of these programs will often give the adopter the opportunity to meet the child they “adopted”. Hand-Me-Downs- Many Christian ministries and churches accept hand-me-down clothing that children can no longer wear. Giving these outgrown clothes to a church or ministry instead of places like thrift stores where they will be resold at a price to anyone can help immensely. Many poor children do not have clothes that fit them or even warm clothing to wear during the appropriate time of the year. Donate- Poor children need things too. This is why donating items such as extra food, toys, clothes and anything else that may be lying around are important items to give away instead of selling or taking to a second hand store that will sell the items for a profit. A church or Christian ministry will give them away to someone that needs them at no cost to help them in any way they can. However, this cannot be done without donations, money and time.
